my favorite classes in college were my draping courses. i love draping, i could do it for hours on end. i find it relaxing and very inspiring. i like to just start with a basic silhouette in mind and see where the fabric takes me. all fabrics are not created equal. some will do things others wont. just like you wouldn't use organza or chiffon for bed sheets, or leather for a bath mat.
i started using silk scarves to drape mini dress forms for display. after much encouragement i've decided to start taking pictures of my favorites. i don't cut or sew the fabric at all. i don't use pins, tape, or adhesive to hold things in place.i merely tuck and tie the scarves. chiffon is the easiest to play with and twist and gather for a full effect, but a heavier silk is great if you're looking for a more set, stiff look. more architectural, a little less 'pretty'.
here are a couple i did last week. the pictures could be better, so i'm a little bummed. they're cuter in person.
