tick-tock

so the past few days i've been confined to my house due to a horrible case of strep throat. i tried to go to work, but ended up coming home after two and a half hours on friday and going to the doctors. i have had almost no voice the past three days and it's been kind of entertaining for the people around me. i'm feeling much better now, my voice is almost completely back to normal, and i'm no longer contagious, thank goodness.

on another note...and the main reason for my post.

i'm in amazement and a little bit of shock. i can't wrap my head around this. the other day i saw a 1.3 million dollar watch. yes, i said MILLION. a stunning diamond and ruby watch from Dior. it's made up of 3.6 carats of nearly colorless diamonds. i don't recall the ruby weight, but theres only one in the world. if you have enough money to spend 1.3 million on a watch, you need to give to charity, feed a third world country, travel, or buy me a few handbags and pairs of shoes. just kidding, kind of. i don't have a picture of the diamond and ruby watch, but i do have a picture of an adorable watch from the La Mini D De Dior collection, i think it's so whimsical with the pink diamonds set in rose gold.

paper hearts

valentine's day is tomorrow and i did a really cute and simple project with paper hearts. last year i had a valentines day dessert party and i cut out tons of paper hearts from cute scrapbook paper. my ex-roomate took several of the hearts and made a paper heart streamer type of thing. it wasn't the first time i had seen this idea, but i had never tried it myself. this year i made some of my own.

i started with valentines themed scrap booking paper and cut out about forty hearts. i then organized them into a pattern. i made two streamers, twenty hearts each. i simply sewed through the hearts, leaving about a three inch gap between each heart. it's an easy, inexpensive valentine's day craft.

happy valentine's day!

if you're a perfectionist (kinda like me...) and you want an exact measurement between the hearts, you can tape a ruler to your sewing machine like i did

my love of craft fairs

so i had a saturday off (for once) and i'm secretly an eighty year old on the weekends and i love to attend craft fairs. there's really only three that i regularly go to. This weekend was the sugarplum festival, but i also attend the harvest festival and unique L.A. there are always unique and cute items that are very reasonably priced. most of the decorations in the pictures below are from these fairs. this weekend i found some jewelry, my dads birthday present, a really great hat (which a picture will soon make its way to a post. i need to hit the beach first:]) and a fantastic picture.

i rearranged some stuff in my room to make a place for the picture and in doing so had to store the only colorful items on my walls. i'm such a black and white girl. i love the crisp classiness of the juxtaposition of black and white. i'm also a sucker for a good zebra. zebra is a little tricky because you can't over do it, and it can't be a 'stripper' zebra. anyways...back to the picture! ha ha. it's a huge framed picture of marilyn monroe that is actually four different pictures from the same photo shoot. it's really cool. the frame is painted black, but distressed and the photos are black and white, but printed in silver so the sheen the picture gives off is really neat looking.

it was a successful weekend.

i had this vinyl lettering on my wall above my bed, but removed it to make room for my new picture. it says: laughter is timeless...imagination has no age...and dreams are forever...

this print on canvas hung over the lettering

just a few pieces of the black and white decor in my room...oh and my lovely dress form (ms.thang)
a framed pane of glass with vinyl lettering and my chandelier (i LOVE the shadow it creates on the wall)
the chandelier hung in the kitchen of my apartment before i moved. i loved the shadow and the contrast it made with the turquoise walls
