San Francisco...finally!

so this weekend i finally made it to San Francisco! it was a last minute trip that i found out about an hour before i left. it was the most spontaneous and short trip i've ever taken, but oh so worth it!

right as i was getting ready to leave work on saturday my phone rang, and it was my sister. she explained that her husband needed to do work up near San Francisco and asked if i would like to ride up with them, i said yes before she could finish the question! i left work with the clothes on my back and went to meet my sister. i found whatever clothes and toiletries i could from my old stuff left at my parents house, packed a bag and hit the road with my sister, her husband, and my brother.

we made it to San Jose (where my brother-in-law was working) at midnight, checked in to the hotel and knocked out. my brother-in-law got up very early the next morning to finish up his work while the rest of us slept in a little. he finished at about 9am and we left for the short trip to San Fran.

Driving into the city was amazing. it was bigger than i had imagined, but it looked exactly like it does in all the pictures and movies. full house and nash bridges couldn't help but pop into my head.

we only had the day sunday to look around and were planning on leaving in the early evening. i had never done so much in a few hours before! we started at fisherman's wharf and took a cruise along the coastline, golden gate bridge, and alcatraz. the weather was beautiful and the boat ride was great. Then we went to boudin to get some of the famous fresh baked sourdough bread. it was delicious! we couldn't resist ghirardelli square so we walked over a few blocks to see all the chocolate and shops. after that we explored historic pier 39. we saw the old war ships and submarine as well as the shopping and coin operated game museum. we couldn't leave without seeing the older part of San Francisco so we drove up some of the famous hills and down lombard street. we drove through downtown and market street and finally over the bay bridge and started on our way home.

the trip was great and served as a mini vacation. we all loved it and made plans to go back when we could stay a few days and really explore the city and go to alcatraz, somewhere i've wanted to go ever since i was little and saw escape from alcatraz. it turned out to be a very memorable weekend.

San Francisco, i'll see you soon!
